PRESS RELEASE:

Asian Dreams 2005 returns to Fashion Textile Museum to showcase British Asian fashion design

High profile fashion event Asian Dreams returns in July 2005 to provide a major platform for British Asian designers from established fashion houses as well as up and coming designers, to showcase their work. Now in its fourth year, Asian Dreams returns to its original birthplace, the spectacular Fashion and Textile Museum in Bermondsey. It will feature some of the hottest and emerging London based Asian designers exploring contemporary British Asian fashion today.
The event which is supported by Newham College of Further Education’s Centre for Innovation and Partnerships (CIPs) has been helping small businesses by providing training opportunities for fashion designers to develop their creative and business skills through collaboration, networking and showcasing. David Reeson, Fashion Consultant to CIPs and Creative Director of Asian Dreams 2005 says:
“British Asian fashion is already a vibrant and growing force in London’s economic development with much of this activity carried out by small businesses. We want to build a foundation to support that and over the next two years will be providing workshops and talks for designers, manufacturers and retailers in East London to help their businesses develop and improve their design and business skills.”

New Designers
This year’s highlights include newcomer urban designer Sonal Patel who recently won the highly acclaimed Swatch Individual Design Award and an internship with leading fashion designer, Walé Adeyemi. Leaving Bond Street for Hackney, London’s first female tailor Imtaz Khaliq will be showcasing her couture collection and will be joined by Green Street based Trendz UK- winners of the Best British Newcomer category at the Asian Business Awards 2005.

Established Designers
Recognised names such as Khubsoorat, Chiffons, Raishma and Nigina London will be displaying collections with a fusion twist showcasing fashion that connects with the British Asian second generation.

Personal Appearance
The opening night will see an exclusive performance by British Asian bhangra star Ms Scandalous with make up exclusively provided by Lakme Cosmetics UK.

Training Workshops
Aspiring designer makers will also be able to take advantage of a number of workshops and training seminars on the 6th July and draw inspiration from industry players as well as learn new skills on a more practical level. Information gathered from businesses attending the event will also help to shape the programme of support over the coming two years.

Press release: Asian Dreams – New Generation
Chelsea Town Hall in London's Kings Road was filled to capacity for the first Asian Dreams event to be staged during London Fashion Week.
'Up and coming' British Asian fashion and accessories designers received high praise from an enthusiastic audience of press, national and international buyers and, of course, the air kissing fashionistas (whose passion for fashion would not allow them to miss out on the newest, hottest fashion event in town). The Nak provided the music and created an ambience of 'multicultural diversity'.
The fantastic feathered headpieces and accessories of Asif Kisson married well with the embroidered and beaded silk collection by Nigina London. Pasha Razzo's tailored menswear made a very strong statement and was loudly applauded by the men in the audience who welcomed the creative and beautifully constructed garments.
The newest 'kids on the block', Javed Omar for Mirage of London and Sedaf Shahnaz for Mahii had never seen their work on the catwalk before. Javed's embroidered silks, in beautiful colours, made an impressive debut. Sedaf's zebra print theme teamed with embroidered and beaded tops created a bold look for both men and women. Her collection was given real attitude by the hats from UrbanDove Wear.
Ashiana Jewellery made from semi precious stones such as blue opals, turquoise, rose quartz and pearls made a feast for the eyes and continued the east and west inspired flavour of the Asian Dreams 'brand'.
The hair and makeup team led by Pip Lee were Alexis Slaybaugh and Faye McAllister. The shoes were from Trendz and Mootich.
Afterwards guests were given goody bags containing amongst other things canned plants from Splash Ltd. CDroms from Eregeneration and keyrings from UrbanDove. They were fed and watered with Cobra Beer (one of the sponsors) and sushi generously provided by Geoffrey Leong of Tokyo City.
"A delicious end to a mouth watering show." David Reeson - Creative Director
